Texas commercial kitchen ventilation is governed by the International Mechanical Code (IMC), adopted statewide, with local amendments by municipalities. Make-Up Air: The Most Common Compliance Gap

Every hood system exhausts air from the building. That exhausted air must be replaced — this is make-up air (MAU). IMC requires that exhaust and supply (make-up air) be balanced within code tolerances.
