Reach-in coolers and freezers take more door openings and more abuse than any other piece of refrigeration in a commercial kitchen, and they usually fail quietly — running longer and longer before anyone notices product temperature has drifted. TechBridge Pacific HVAC Corp repairs reach-in and pass-through coolers and freezers for restaurants, grocers, and convenience stores across Collin County and North Dallas. We are commercial-only, licensed under TDLR TACLA 00151786R, and based in Melissa, TX.
Call (469) 609-6204. Product loss on a reach-in adds up fast — we treat “not holding temp” as a same-day call.
Symptoms That Mean Call Now
Unit running constantly but not holding temperature. Ice building up on the evaporator coil or fan. Compressor short-cycling or not starting. Warm spots inside the box while the display reads correct. Water pooling at the base or a leaking door gasket. Unusual noise from the compressor or condenser fan.
How We Diagnose a Reach-In Problem
1. Door and gasket
A worn or torn gasket, a door that doesn’t self-close, or a warped door frame lets warm, humid kitchen air into the box continuously. This is the single most common cause of “runs constantly, ices up, doesn’t hold temp” that we find — and the cheapest to fix.
2. Condenser and airflow
Grease and dust loading on the condenser coil is chronic in kitchen environments. We check condenser airflow and clearance before touching the refrigerant side; a blocked condenser mimics a low-charge system.
3. Refrigerant charge
We check superheat and subcooling against the nameplate spec with manifold gauges, not by feel. A slightly low charge shows up first as long run times and high electric use, before it shows up as a warm box.
4. Evaporator fan and defrost
A failed evaporator fan motor or a defrost timer/heater stuck out of cycle causes heavy coil icing, which then blocks airflow entirely and drops capacity to near zero.
5. Controls
Thermostat/controller calibration and drift, especially on older electromechanical controls, is a common source of “it looks fine on the display but the product isn’t cold.”
Common Reach-In Repairs
Door gasket and hinge replacement, condenser coil cleaning, evaporator fan motor replacement, defrost timer and heater replacement, compressor and start-component replacement, controller/thermostat replacement and calibration, and refrigerant leak repair with recovery and weighed-in recharge.
Repair or Replace?
Door and control repairs are worth doing on equipment of any age. A compressor failure on a unit past 10–12 years, especially on an R-22 unit, is usually the point where replacement makes more sense than repair — parts availability and refrigerant cost both work against an old system. We’ll tell you which side of that line your unit is on before we quote the repair.
Brands We Service
True, Beverage-Air, Turbo Air, Traulsen, Continental Refrigerator, and Delfield, in reach-in, pass-through, and undercounter configurations.
Why TechBridge Pacific
Every diagnostic includes measured superheat and subcooling, not a guess. We are EPA Section 608 certified and recover refrigerant on every open-system repair. We are commercial-only, so a reach-in call isn’t waiting behind a residential AC dispatch queue.
Service Area
McKinney, Allen, Melissa, Anna, Prosper, Celina, Frisco, Plano, Richardson, and Dallas, TX.
Frequently Asked Questions
Our reach-in runs constantly but the temperature reads fine. Is that a problem?
Usually yes. Constant run time on a unit that’s holding temperature typically means a dirty condenser, a worn door gasket, or a slightly low charge. It costs electricity now and a compressor later.
Why is there ice building up on the back wall or fan?
Almost always a defrost cycle problem (timer or heater) or a door/gasket issue letting in humid air. Either way, ice on the coil blocks airflow and makes the problem worse over time.
How fast can you get here if a reach-in stops cooling?
Same day in most cases. Call rather than email for an active refrigeration failure — we prioritize these over comfort-cooling calls.
Can you just add refrigerant to get through the weekend?
We can, but a unit that needs refrigerant has a leak. Topping off to protect product over a weekend is reasonable; doing it every few months is how compressors fail. We’ll find the leak and quote the actual repair.
Do you replace door gaskets?
Yes — gaskets, hinges, and door closers, usually same visit if we’re already on site.
What refrigerants do you handle?
R-404A and R-134a on most current equipment, R-22 on older units. EPA 608 certified; we recover on every open-system repair.
Do you offer a maintenance plan for reach-in equipment?
Yes. Reach-in coolers and freezers can be covered under our commercial maintenance agreements, on their own or alongside walk-ins and ice machines.
